TBI MOTION『Introduction to Ball Screws』:

Ball Screw Structure

The main structure of a ball screw consists of a screw shaft, nut, steel balls, wipers, and a recirculation system.
According to the different recirculation systems used in the nut, ball screws can be classified into external circulation, internal circulation, and end-cap circulation types.

Ball screw type

Ball screws can also be classified into the following two types according to their manufacturing methods:

1. Ground Ball Screws
Manufacturing Method:Produced through turning and grinding processes, where excess material is removed using extremely hard abrasive tools to form the screw threads. Progressive grinding is used to achieve precise dimensions.
Characteristics:High precision, high rigidity, higher cost, and a wider range of specifications and sizes.

2. Rolled Ball Screws
Manufacturing Method:Manufactured through a rolling process in which the material undergoes plastic deformation to form threads or grooves.
Characteristics:High production efficiency, reduced axial backlash, lower cost, and shorter lead time. However, the rolling process is irreversible, and mold wear can easily lead to dimensional deformation.

Nut types are available to meet diverse customer requirements, including compact size, high speed, low noise, heavy load, and more.

◆Smooth Operation
The high efficiency of ball screws is vastly superior to conventional screws. The torque required is less than 30%. Linear motion can be easily changed from rotary motion.

◆High precision
The lead accuracy of TBI precision ball screws (grade C0 to grade C5 ) is based on JIS standards.

◆High Durability
Rigidly selected materials, intensive heat treating and processing techniques, backed by years of experience, have resulted in the most durable ball screws manufactured.

◆Application
Automation industry, Semi-conductor industry, Industrial machine, Medical industry, Green energy industry, Machine tool, Automated storage and retrieval system and etc.

When selecting a ball screw, the most fundamental principle is to thoroughly investigate the operating conditions before determining the design.
Important selection factors include load ,speed acceleration ,max , travel length, positioning accuracy, ect.
These factors are all interrelated, and a change in one factor will affect the others. Therefore, it is essential to carefully consider the balance among all selection factors.

 

selection precedure:

(1) Series:When making selection of series, please take demanded accuracy, intended delivery time,dimensions( the outside diameter of screw, ratio of lead/ the outside diameter of screw) preload and etc into consideration.
(2) Selection of circulation type : Please consider the efficiency of screw nut's mounting space. The advantage of each circulation type will be specified
(3) Number of loop circuits:Performance and service life should be considered when selecting number of loop circuits.
(4) Shape of flanges (FLANGE):Please make selection based on the available space for the installation of nuts.
(5) Oil hole:Oil hoIes are provided for the precision ball screws, please use them during machine assembling and regular furnishing.

 

TBI Nut Circulation type:

a. Internal circulation type:1.Delicated diameter of screw takes only little space.
Applicable to those with smaller lead / the outside diameter of the screw.

2. Applicable to larger lead and diameter.
3. Applicable for high loading purpose. ( TBI MOTION patent nut )

Cautions about use of ball screws

1. Prevent the ball track from damages that caused by edged component or tools.
2. prevent steel ball fall out of the nut through the disassembly of screw and nut or over stroke .
3. If disassemble is required, please use a transfer pipe which has minor diameter than the screw diameter to transfer the nut to prevent falling out of the steel balls

 Error installation

4. Adequate lubrication must be provided when ball screw is used, insufficient lubrication will result in collision of metal, which leads to increase of friction and detrition, thus cause failure or shortening the service life.
